Psicosis desencadenada por metilfenidato en un adolescente con trastorno de déficit de atención e hiperactividad / Methylphenidate-induced psychosis in an adolescent patient with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Se presenta el caso de un adolescente de 14 años con diagnóstico de trastorno de déficit de atención e hiperactividad que empezó a presentar síntomas psicóticos al tercer día de tratamiento con metilfenidato, los cuales no remitieron a pesar del retiro de dicho estimulante. Se inició tratamiento antipsicótico, al sexto día del retiro, por la intensidad y persistencia de los síntomas. Los síntomas psicóticos persistieron por más de 8 meses de seguimiento del paciente por lo cual se le hizo diagnóstico de esquizofrenia.

This is the case of a 14 year-old teenager diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who showed psychotic symptoms on the third day of treatment with methylphenidate; and whose symptoms did not remit did not remit despite the withdrawal of the stimulant. Antipsychotic treatment was initiated on sixth day of the suspension of the stimulant because of the intensity and persistence of symptoms. Psychotic symptoms persisted for more than 8 months of patient follow-up, for this reason he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Pica en anemia severa: a propósito de un caso / Pica in severe anemia: A case report

Se reporta el caso de una mujer de 32 años, que fue internada por presentar anemia severa debido a una hemorragia uterina anormal secundaria a miomatosis. En la anamnesis se detectó que la paciente presentaba la peculiar conducta de ingerir trozos de papel higiénico remojado en bencina. Un mes luego de corregida la anemia, el trastorno de la conducta alimentaria desapareció. A propósito de este caso de pica se hace una revisión razonable de la literatura sobre este interesante y poco estudiado fenómeno psicopatológico.

The case of a 32-year-old woman is reported: she was hospitalized with a severe anemia due to abnormal uterine bleeding by miomatosis. In the anamnesis, it was found that the patient had the strange behavior of ingest pieces of toilet paper soaked in benzine. The disorder of eating behavior disappeared a month after the anemia was corrected. Based on this case of pica, we review the literature on this is interesting and little studied psychopathological phenomenon.

Agorafobia en la infancia: a propósito de un caso / Agoraphobia in infancy: a case report

Se presenta un caso de agorafobia en un niño de 10 años de edad, que presenta temor y evitación a las aglomeraciones, a los lugares públicos como mercados, hospitales y escuelas, así como temor a viajar solo en autobús y ausentarse solo de casa, de inicio en la edad preescolar y con deterioro de su vida social y académica. (Rev Neuropsiquiatr 2011;74:213-218).

We report a case of a 10 year old boy with agoraphobia, who has fear and avoids crowds, public places, like markets, hospitals and school, and also has fear of travelling alone by bus and being alone in his house; with impaired social and academic life that started in preschool.
